Dandenong Railway Station is one of the stations earmarked for renewal under the Better Stations Program (feasibility  studies managed in joint partnership with AECOM and WSP and the Department of Transport).

The assessment included the station, the overpass, bus interchanges and car parks. The overpass connects to the middle of the station thoroughfare and has high levels of people transiting through the thoroughfare for connection to the other side of Dandenong. This has created a complex environment where safety for train and bus users is mixed with the behaviours and needs of those transiting between major retail areas.
